Another great expedition for bird photography with friends Alexandre Vidal and Ernani Oliveira.

There were 4 days of bird photography in 6 cities in the state of São Paulo. We passed through Salesópolis, Eldorado, Iporanga, Itanhaém, Peruíbe and finishing in the state capital, São Paulo.

We started with Salesópolis, because when we were here last month we did not get to photograph the Spot-winged Wood-Quail, because it was very cold and sold, but in this trip the weather was the same or even worse, very cold, but we were successful at the 45 of the second half, but it was enough for great photos. We also photographed other species there like Ruddy Quail-Dove, Gray-fronted Dove, Scarlet-throated Ant-Tanager, Long-tailed Reed Finch among many others. I take this opportunity to thank Elvis and Nanda for the reception at their home and also for their daughters who help make the delicious Italian straw. We slept in Salesopolis and at dawn the next day we left for Eldorado, since it was very cold and windy and we were not able to leave the boat by the Guarapiranga dam. Before we even got to the Duco, we had the message that the Green-throated Euphonia was in the feeder together with the Chestnut-backed Tanager, which made us very excited. After doing some photos in the feeder we went up to try to see the Ornate Hawk-Eagle that is nest nearby. After good photos of the hawk, we went to Iporanga to photograph the Blue-bellied Parrot (the one that Junior Petar has been complaining about making the biggest mess on the tangerine feet before dawn, rssss.) There were more than 4 couples in the orchard in allowing us to improve our photos of this beautiful bird. Still in Iporanga we went to another place to try some more nocturnal birds, we took good pictures of the Least Pygmy-Owl, Bay-ringed Tyrannulet, but as it was about 8 degrees at that time the birds answered but they did not appear, only the Long-trained Nightjar gave a pass and then soon disappeared. Tonight I was presented by friend Ernani Oliveira with a photo of the Such’s Antthrush he made in Itatiaia, he edited the photo for fine art printing that was sensational, thanks again my friend. The next day we returned to the nest site of the Ornate Hawk-Eagle for some more photos and we left for Itanhaém to see the Red-tailed Parrot and then we went to the Backpacker’s hostel Fabio Barata. The weather was still very cold, until we tried a corujada, but soon we returned to the inn. At dawn the next day we went straight to the Guarapiranga dam in São Paulo to meet friends Marco Silva and Fabio Schunck. It was 4 hours sailing on the dam to try to see some migratory birds that appear there in the winter. To our happiness we saw many cool birds including what was to our group the highlight of the expedition, the Silvery Grebe, beautiful bird that bestowed on us an apparition right next to our boat providing us with beautiful photos. We also saw the Coot, Duck, water hen and other waterfowl.

Well we finished our expedition with more 1800 km rolled.

Thanks again to friends and clients Ernani Oliveira and alexandre Vidal ..
