January 3 to 10, 2020 Expedition through the regions of Itatiaia National Park, Serrinha do Alambari, Serra da Bocaina National Park and Guaratinguetá SP with couple Rita and Luiz from Santos SP.

The expedition began in the region of Itatiaia National Park, despite the rainy weather we were able to photograph many birds around the region.

Mirante do Último Adeus

We started in a lake near the park where there is always a bunch of masked duck, this time there were 8 individuals, also there duck and small loon. Shortly afterwards we head towards the upper part of the park where birds of altitude vary from 1700m to 2450m. In this place lives the itatiaia spinetail, endemic bird of altitude. We also find the Flamenguinho frog, which is also endemic in altitude and today is the symbol of the park.

The next day we went in search of birds in the open area, we had the help of the weather and we still got many nice photos in the morning. We also went to Serrinha do Alambari and Capelinha, both Resende district. In Itatiaia Rita spotted a Common Potoo by day, was very happy that she made the discovery herself. The Common Potoo was not yet on the wikiaves site for Itatiaia.

The Itatiaia National Park region is also very rich in moths and butterflies, has been cataloged more than 700 species of butterflies in the region.
